How are your reviews different than other review sites? |
At most sites, you'll find extensive, detailed, and informative reviews based on the experience of one person or a small team of people that study the product choices. We appreciate the importance of this approach.
However, our goal is to bring you a short "book report" that brings it all together very quickly. We scour public sources for hours to summarize and determine the most widely held beliefs.
In addition, we write not for the extreme technical user, but for the average reader who is looking for quick, useful information in an easy to understand format. You won't always find that elsewhere! |
| |
|
|
|
Who is your target audience? |
We're writing for the average non-expert reader who wants to take five minutes and quickly learn about a new product, or to find some quick pointers as they shop or consider their choices. |

Who writes your reviews? |
What Not Reviews was started with a core staff of three editors, all of whom have experience and passion in marketing, writing, retail, and education.
We are also expanding our writing opportunities to select guest editors whom we feel will do a great job of sticking to our basic rules of writing product reviews; helpfulness, consiceness, and accuracy. We feel that this is a win-win situation for both What Not Reviews, and our guest editors. |
| |
|
|
|
How do you make money? |
By using targeted partner advertising that relates well with our topics, we are able to make enough to compensate for the cost of running What Not Reviews.
Important notes:
1) Their advertising in no way affects the way our editors write reviews.
2) Our reviews are not written to please our advertisers.

Where do you get the information for your reviews? |
We get information for our reviews from hundreds of publically available sources. We spend many hours on every review in order to accurately bring all these sources down to one page of information for you, therefore saving you hours of research.
- Forums and Surveys
- Feedback and Complaint sites
- Manufacturers & Retailers
- Better Business Bureaus & Government sources
- Actual product use
- Trade Publications & Magazines
- Interviews
- Many others...

Do you charge a fee to be listed in your web directory? |
Currently, we are able to offer this service to other webmasters in exchange for reciprocal linking back to us. Depending on demand, we may need to limit the number of accepted directory listings in the future. Fortunately, our entire site has been indexed by the major search engines and will only help your site's efforts.
We feel that hosting a directory of relevant websites is helpful to both our visitors and to select partner websites. Without the traffic that links bring between sites, it's not possible to effectively grow our readership.

|
There aren't that many reviews. Why? |
We are working hard to organize our site, as well as search for additional guest review writers. We expect to provide literally hundreds of reviews on everything imaginable in the coming months. |
| |
|
|
|
Do websites listed in your directory influence your product ratings? |
Our review are completely independent of our website directory. We chose links that we feel will be helpful to our readers based on the products they are reading about. We don't necessarily endore any particular listing, and they have absolutely no bearing on either the products reviewed, or what we have to say about the products. |

|
I found a factual error in one of your reviews. How can I let you know? |
We expect to make a few errors along the way, and we appreciate feedback that will help us to quickly resolve this issues. Please use our contact page to send us a quick message and we'll have the information changed as quickly as possible. |

We extensively study the market. We keep in mind our target audience. And we try our best to summarize what a great majority of feedback tells us. Will this always be the same as other review sites? Probably not. Will this match Consumer Reports? Probably not. Is the best always the most expensive? Not always.
There is a certain level of ambiguity involved, and there is a certain amount of our own editorializing that needs to happen along the way. Though we try to minimize our own opinions as much as possible and try to let the feedback speak for itself.

Where can I find a certain product to buy? I don't see links to shopping for the products you review. |
There are a lot of review sites that will link you directly to a product's website from a review. There are also thousands of sites waiting to offer you the cheapest of anything. That's not our goal to be the next Amazon. We feel that this can create a somewhat confusing feel, and can create questions as to where our loyalties lie.
To the side of every review, we offer partner advertisers that may well match your needs to further investigate a specific product. We do not pick and choose these advertisers, so you can rest assured that we don't write our reviews to make them happy.
We also have a quick search tool that allows you to either search What Not Reviews, or to search the internet for a specific product very quickly |

- Submit a direct link in our web directory.
-
Become a partner advertiser. On any review page, click on the words "Advertise on this site" to learn more or visit Google Adsense directly.

|
How do I submit a website to be listed in your directory? |
It's simple. Browse through our web directory. Find the category you feel your site should be in, and then fill out a quick form. It will take you two minutes. We'll review your site, and if we feel it's a good match, we'll have it live within a few days assuming the reciprocal link has been posted on your site. |

If your site accepts advertising, how can you remain unbiased in your reviews? |
We utilize 3rd parties to manage our web advertising space. Therefore, we are not involved in direct negotiation with advertisers. By using a 3rd party advertiser, we are able to seperate ourselves from that part of the business. Our reviews are based on fact and published opinion. There is absolutely no influence from advertisers in the content of our reviews. |
| |
|
|
|
How frequently are your reviews updated? |
We update reviews as the pace of the market dictates. If you find something that is outdated, please let us know! |
| |
|
|
|
I disagree with your top picks. Will you change them? |
We know we won't make everyone happy. And we accept that. We will certainly be honored to read your opinions and we welcome feedback. We will only correct reviews that are either factually inaccurate or completely off base. |

What does "Level of Competition" mean? |
Our goal is to reflect consensus of reviews in the market. To indicate the number of choices out there, we've developed a simple rating to indicate how many choices are out there in the market.
10 - Overwhelming number of choices, perhaps hundreds. Narrowing down picks may be difficult.
5 - Many choices available, but still fairly easy to determine what options are available.
1 - Very few choices, options are limited. Top picks are very easy to determine. |

What does "What Not Latitude" mean? |
Our goal is to reflect consensus of reviews in the market. However, because there is no clear way to consolidate consensus, and because opinions can often times be conflicting, we have to utilize our own opinions. We base our picks on the credibility of reviews we read, trends, timing, and our own experience. To match perfectly with the rest of the input, we'd have a rating of 1. This is rarely possible.
10 - We had to apply a significant amount of our own opinion into choosing our top picks.
5 - There is a significant amount of consistent feedback, and we were able to draw fairly obvious conclusions.
1 - Top picks are clearly obvious, either based on statistical feedback, or the consistency of other ratings. |
